Eddie’s Busts Men’s Fashion Myths

Quelle surprise. There’s a lot—and we mean A LOT—of bad advice on the internet. Nowhere is this truer than in the realm of men’s fashion. We’ve collected a few myths some men carry around. Are the myths true? Are they out-dated relics of bygone eras? There’s only one way to find out. Here are the first 5 of many myths we’ll take a closer look at in a series we like to call…

Hey, Eddie. What’s Up With This Fashion Myth???

MYTH: Black and brown don’t mix

Eddie: Get out of town. This is an old rule that makes little to no sense in today’s modern world. At some point, people thought black and brown were too close in colour to complement one another. Some Eddie’s advice? Go for a lighter shade of brown that adds some contrast to the black you’re wearing. You’ll look dapper and unafraid to buck some nonsensical, archaic fashion trends.

MYTH: Mixing patterns is a crime against fashion

Press the brakes on that hyperbole. Men’s fashion is experiencing a renaissance in terms of patterns. Mixing them is a great way to stand out and get noticed. This can be a subtle choice or more pronounced. Again, what’s more important is about finding the right balance in your outfit.

MYTH: You can’t wear jeans with a tie.

Eddie: Listen up, Denim Dan. You most definitely can wear a tie on top and jeans down below. You’ll express a confidence that looks as good in a boardroom as it does at an after-work soiree. Play with jean colour to enhance the formal feel, or go casual knit on the tie to dial it down.

MYTH: The belt should match the shoes

Eddie: Here’s what we tell people in store. If you’re looking for classic style, match that belt to those shoes. Beyond that, don’t be afraid to chart your own course. We’re after balance not restricting the way people dress. Also, maybe your outfit doesn’t need a belt. *Gasp!* Scandalous, we know.

MYTH: You cannot wear your sunglasses at night

Eddie: Okay, you know what? Unless you’re an ‘80’s pop-rock icon, you should definitely not wear your sunglasses at night. If it’s dark out and you’ve got your shades on, you risk looking tacky and people just think you’re hiding something. Also good advice? Don’t switch the blade on the guy in shades, oh no.
